Facing the new political and institutional shift in Valencia, where the far-right has reached the power in the Regional government, the Group of Women Journalists and Photojournalists Les Beatrius advises the media and their management on:

1. Bearing in mind what has been achieved through the efforts and mobilization of feminism and that is already included in the legal texts: gender-based violence is NOT domestic violence. Our stories must banish and denounce the denialism of this structural problem.

2-Regarding this, we must be extremely careful with the treatment of violence against women in the news. We cannot normalize denialism and we must denounce fake news and data and concepts’ manipulations.

3-As journalists, we must denounce any regressive measure on women’s rights that may be adopted.

4-We must guarantee truthful information, and that is why our guide is gender perspective. An androcentric story, we know, is a false and incomplete story.

5-Words and images create realities. What is not named or shown does not exist. For this reason, our main tool must be the use of equal and inclusive language and images.

6- With a lot of effort, some media have adopted certain commitments to do decent journalism with a gender perspective. We can’t go back.

7-There are no excuses: we are guided by the law, we are committed to ethical codes and a thousand guides help us to do our work with dignity and equality.

Por un periodismo feminista, por un periodismo digno

Ante el giro político e institucional en el País Valencià, donde la extrema derecha ha llegado al poder en el Gobierno regional, el Grupo de Periodistas y Fotoperiodistas Feministas ‘Les Beatrius’ recuerda a los medios de comunicación y a sus direcciones que:

1. Teniendo en cuenta todo lo conseguido con esfuerzo y movilización del feminismo y que recogen los textos legales: violencia machista NO es violencia intrafamiliar. Nuestro relato tiene que desterrar y denunciar el negacionismo de este problema estructural.

2. En este sentido, hay que extremar el cuidado en el tratamiento de las violencias contra las mujeres. No podemos normalizar el negacionismo y sí denunciar falsedades y manipulaciones de datos y conceptos.

3. Como periodistas debemos denunciar cualquier medida regresiva en los derechos de las mujeres que pueda adoptarse.

4. Tenemos que garantizar la información veraz, y nuestra guía es la perspectiva de género. Un relato androcéntrico, lo sabemos, es un relato falso e incompleto.

5. Las palabras y las imágenes crean realidades. Aquello que no se nombra o no se muestra, no existe. Por ello, trabajamos con lenguaje e imágenes igualitarias y inclusivas.

6. Con mucho esfuerzo, algunos medios de comunicación han adoptado ciertos compromisos para ejercer un #PeriodismoDigno y con perspectiva de género. No podemos retroceder.

7. No más excusas: nos guían las leyes, nos comprometen los códigos deontológicos y nos ayudan las mil guías para ejercer nuestro trabajo dignamente cada día.
