CSW 2018: Focus on Section J – Taking stock, looking forward (con interpretación)

Description: The event provides a critical update of progress on gender and media resolutions from CSW 47 and Section J of the Beijing Platform for Action, drawing from research evidence, advocacy and practical experience. Progress in closing the gender inequality gap remains extremely slow: the needle towards parity has shifted by only 7 points in two decades; gender stereotypes remain firmly lodged in media contents; growing violence against women over digital platforms impedes women’s rights online. An interactive teaching and panel discussion approach will create knowledge about persistent gaps, emerging issues and suggestions for intervention by civil society, media professionals and industry bodies.
Expected outcomes: Renewed commitment to lobby for adoption and/or implementation of gender policies for the ICT, media and communication sectors, critical for sustaining any gains on Sustainable Development Goals 5, 16, regional and national gender equality agreements.
